X - ray Emission Properties of the Old Pulsar PSR B 2224 + 65

چکیده
Using archival Chandra data we studied the X-ray emission properties of PSR B2224+65 and its environment. Albeit limited by photon statistics the spectral analysis suggests that the bulk of the emission from PSR B2224+65 is non-thermal. Fitting a power-law to the observed energy spectrum yields a photon index of Γ = 1.58 +0.43 −0.33. The possible origin of the non-thermal pulsar emission is discussed in the context of the outer-gap model. We did not find any evidence for a compact nebula around PSR B2224+65 though the Chandra data reveal the existence of an extended feature which appears to be associated with PSR B2224+65. It extends from the pulsar position about 2 arcmin to the northwest. Its orientation deviates by ∼ 118 • from the pulsar's proper motion direction. Investigating its energy spectrum shows that the emission of this extended feature is much harder than that of the pulsar itself and is non-thermal in nature.

X-ray Emission from the Guitar Nebula
We have detected weak soft X-ray emission from the Pulsar Wind Nebula trailing the high velocity star PSR 2224+65 (the ‘Guitar Nebula’). This X-ray flux gives evidence of γ ∼ 10 eV particles in the pulsar wind and constrains the properties of the post-shock flow. The X-ray emission is most easily understood if the shocked pulsar wind is partly confined in the nebula and if magnetic fields in th...
متن کاملXmm-newton Observations of Psr B1823–13: an Asymmetric Synchrotron Nebula around a Vela-like Pulsar
We present a deep observation with the X-ray Multi-Mirror Mission of PSR B1823–13, a young pulsar with similar properties to the Vela pulsar. We detect two components to the X-ray emission associated with PSR B1823–13: an elongated core of extent 30 immediately surrounding the pulsar, embedded in a fainter, diffuse component of emission 5 in extent, seen only on the southern side of the pulsar....
متن کاملSpectral and timing properties of the X - ray emission from the millisecond pulsar PSR B 1821 − 24
We report results on the timing and spectral analysis of observations of the millisecond pulsar PSR B1821−24 with RXTE, BeppoSAX and Chandra. The X-ray light curve is characterized by two narrow peaks at a phase distance of 0.452 ± 0.002. The average pulsed emission, over the range 1.6–20 keV, is well represented by a single power law with a photon index α = 1.30 −0.02 +0.05 and unabsorbed (2–1...
متن کاملChandra and Rxte Studies of the X-ray/γ-ray Millisecond Pulsar Psr J0218+4232
We report on high-resolution spatial and timing observations of the millisecond pulsar PSR J0218+4232 performed with the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) and the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). With these observations we were able to study a) the possible spatial extent at X-ray energies of the DC source coincident with PSR J0218+4232 in detail (CXO), b) the relative phasing between the X-ra...
متن کاملSubaru optical observations of the old pulsar PSR B 0950 + 08 ⋆
We report the B band optical observations of an old (τ ∼ 17.5 Myr) radiopulsar PSR B0950+08 obtained with the Suprime-Cam at the Subaru telescope. We detected a faint object, B=27. 07±0.16. Within our astrometrical accuracy it coincides with the radio position of the pulsar and with the object detected earlier by Pavlov et al. (1996) in UV with the HST/FOC/F130LP. The positional coincidence and...
